“That’s primitive” President Ruto tears into DP Gachagua’s shareholder remarks

The Kikuyu tribe has the most workers employed by the government, the latest report by the Public Service has revealed.

President William Ruto has dismissed DP Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks comparing the Kenya Kwanza government to a limited company with shareholders.

Gachagua has on record declared that government appointments and contracts are a preserve of those who voted for the Kenya Kwanza government.

“This government is a company that has shares. There are owners who have the majority of shares, and those with just a few, while others do not have any. You invested in this government and you must reap. You sowed, tilled, put manure, and irrigated, and now it is time to reap,” Gachagua said in February.

However, speaking in Siaya County during the groundbreaking ceremony for Ugenya Level 4 Hospital, the president termed DP Gachagua’s remarks as “primitive and backward”.

“It is primitive and backward for anybody to imagine that any region of Kenya cannot get development on account of how they voted … That is not right. That is not correct…” the president said.

Ruto said that all Kenyans are shareholders of the Kenya Kwanza government and that no part of the country will be discriminated against on account of how it voted in the 2022 General Election.

“Na watu wa nyanza mimi nataka niwaeleza, mtu asiwaambie ati mko nje ya serikali. Hii nis serikali ya wakenya wote. Munalipa ushuru na nyinyi ni wakenya. Hii ni serikali yenu,

“Na tutahakikisha ya kwamba hakuna eneo la Kenya itabaguliwa kwa mambo ya maendeleo kwa misingi ya siasa. Tunataka kuhakikisha yakwamba Kenya ni mojana tutaungana sisi wote kama viongozi ndio Kenya iweze kusonga mbele,” he said.

On his part, Siaya Governor James Orengo warned the Kenya Kwanza leadership against using development to discriminate against other regions.

“Development must not be used as a weapon to discriminate against any part of the country. It is the Constitutional right of every Kenyan to get service from the National Government,” Orengo said.
