UDA MP says President Ruto planning Cabinet reshuffle

by Enock Ndayala

Kenya’s President William Ruto on Tuesday, August 1, lamented that a section of Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries were incompetent.

The Head of State who was presiding over the performance contract signing at State House said that it was so embarrassing that some CSs and PSs were not aware of what their responsibilities are several months into their jobs.

He further locked out Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and his Trade counterpart Moses Kuria from attending the meeting due to being late.

The debate has elicited sharp reactions from both Kenya Kwanza and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

For instance, Kiambaa Member of Parliament John Njuguna alias Kawanjiku on Wednesday, August 2, slammed the CSs who were late and those who were termed incompetent.

Speaking during an interview on TV47, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator said the president was preparing for the CSs and PSs for a possible reshuffle.

He said the president had no space for lazy government officials who cannot understand their roles almost a year into their jobs adding that some of them will be dropped and the right ones picked.

“It was actually a warning that in the net meeting, some (CSs and PSs) would be dropped and others picked,” the lawmaker said.

Earlier on, former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando wa Kabando defended the CSs President William Ruto termed as incompetent.

Kabando instead said the President and his deputy are the ones who are lazy as the CSs and PSs do not take anything without explicit permission from above.

“Ruto was complaining today. What does he want us to do as citizens; he’s the president, the head of government. There is no Cabinet Secretary or PS who can exit the border of Kenya without written permission from the president… so the incompetence is not on the CS or PS, it’s on the president and his deputy,” he said.
