Speaking on Wednesday, October 4, the opposition leader said Gachagua does not deserve to be the country’s second most senior political leader.

“I have said that Gachagua is a person who does not deserve to be the deputy president of the nation because his mouth is dirty; he gives words that can bring conflict in the nation,” Raila said.

Odinga termed Gachagua as “an embarrassment” to the nation owing to the office he holds, adding that he does not possess the moral acumen to sit in the office of a country’s deputy president.

“It is a tragedy for this country to have Gachagua as the Deputy President. It is as if he is the Deputy President for the Mt Kenya region only. He even says that Kenya is owned by shareholders. Such words are not right. Ruto should censure his deputy,” Gachagua said.

He censured the DP for allegedly discriminating against other parts of the country and only working for the region from which he comes.

“He is said to be the deputy president of the nation of Kenya, but he pretends to be the deputy president of Mount Kenya, other parts of Kenya are foreign to him,” the Azimio chief said in an interview on KTN News.

Raila was speaking in reference to Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks after he declared that government appointments and contracts are a preserve of those who voted for the Kenya Kwanza government.

Gachagua has been on record saying that the Kenya Kwanza government will reward its staunch supporters and those who toiled to put the current government in office and give the least consideration to members of the opposition.

“This government is a company that has shares. There are owners who have the majority of shares, and those with just a few, while others do not have any. You invested in this government and you must reap. You sowed, tilled, put manure, and irrigated, and now it is time to reap,” he said in February.
