Kalonzo Musyoka is his own problem, says Martha Karua

by Amos Khaemba

Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential running mate Martha Karua has suggested that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka laid the ground for the political problems facing him currently.

The former vice president is a political dilemma having bolted out of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party having lost out on the running mate slot.

Speaking on the Inooro TV program dubbed Kirimbi on Sunday, May 22, Karua opined the frequent threats by Kalonzo might have cost him the chance to be named the running mate to the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate.

“I went into the running mate interviews with an open mind and commitment to belong to Azimio regardless of the outcome. Musyoka had made it his business to impose himself on the ticket,” Karua said.

On the possibility of convincing Kalonzo to get back to the Azimio camp, Karua opined that the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party flag bearer must engage the Wiper leader.

“I got nothing to promise him as the bait to nab him since the one to engage him along those lines is Mr Odinga.” Karua said.

The Wiper leader revived his presidential ambitions by naming Andrew Sunkuli his running mate after announcing that he had quit Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party.

Before the ODM leader settled on Martha Karua, Kalonzo had threatened unspecified consequences in the event he was overlooked for the slot.

He had earlier vowed not to appear before the selection panel chaired by Noah Wekesa on grounds that the exercise was “demeaning”.

After the interviews, the panel forwarded the names of Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth, and Kalonzo Musyoka to the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party flag bearer for consideration.
