Former Kiambu governor looks forward to being reelected in 2022

by Enock Ndayala

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu now says he is optimistic that he will be re-elected back into office in next year’s General Election.

In January 2020, the Senate upheld a decision by the Kiambu County Assembly to kick out Waititu after he was found guilty of violating national laws, violating the Constitution among other charges including corruption.

But in an interview with one of the local media outlets on Tuesday, December 14, Waititu said his development track record in various parts of Kiambu County speaks for itself.

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu now says he is optimistic that he will be re-elected back into the office in next year’s General Election.

While singling out some of the developments he made during his three years stay at the helm of the County, Waititu code-named Baba Yao, said Kiambu residents are pleading with him to come back.

“Tigoni and Thika Level Five among other hospitals were stalled before I took over. They are now complete. I have not even mentioned the many markets that were almost complete before I was dethroned,” Waititu said.

While there were reports that Waititu could be barred from seeking any of elective seats in the 2022 General Election, the former Kiambu governor revealed that detectives advised him to shift his political allegiance to William Ruto’s camp.

“They wanted to add me another case and that is how I changed my political affiliation for protection. I was actually advised to do so by some investigators and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officers,” Waititu said as quoted by People Daily Digital.

He expressed confidence that he will beat Thika MP Patrick Wainaina at the party primaries to fly the UDA flag in the 2022 elections.

Waititu is expected to face off with former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo of Wakenya Tujibebe Party, Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, James Nyoro, and Juliet Kimemia among others who are also vying for the seat.
