Beatrice Elachi says Raila knows politicians use him to get to power

by Enock Ndayala

Dagoreti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi has revealed that some leaders from the minority side just used Raila Odinga’s name to get to power.

Elachi said she once shared with the former Prime Minister that some of the leaders were not serious about making Raila president but were just after their own selfish gains.

Appearing on a K24 morning interview on Thursday, August 17, the former Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly shockingly revealed that Raila is aware that some leaders were not serious about him succeeding now-retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Baba knows that sometimes we just play on him, many times we are not serious about him being president, we just use him for us to get our positions and after that, we are done,” Elachi said.

Her comments come just months after a section of leaders from the opposition faction have been accusing Suna East MP Junet Mohammed of sabotaging Raila’s presidential bid from within.

Elachi, who was elected under Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party further defended the United States ambassador Meg Whitman for claiming that the hotly contested 2022 presidential elections were the most credible in the country’s history.

The lawmaker said the US ambassador made it because the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition had all the necessary support he needed from the then-outgoing government.

“You know why the US ambassador would say that is because Raila had every supported he needed from the then outgoing government and so even if he lost or it was rigged they wonder,” she said.

She instead asked the opposition leader to focus on the 2027 General Election.
