Ex-President Uhuru’s cousin declares DP Gachagua new Mt Kenya kingpin

by Enock Ndayala

The debate over who between retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is the Mt Kenya kingpin is far from over.

A section of leaders and residents from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region allied to Kieleweke faction still maintains that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is still the Mt Kenya Kingpin.

However, the Tanga Tanga faction on the other side claims that the former Head of State by virtue of retirement has automatically relinquished his role as the kingpin of the Mt Kenya region.

But in a shocking turn of events, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kung’u Muigai on Wednesday, August 16, declared Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the new Mt Kenya kingpin.

Kung’u Muigai, a key ally of President William Ruto stated that by being the deputy president, Rigathi is the Mt Kenya supreme leader the residents should follow.

“Uhuru Kenyatta is my kin but he is now retired. We are actually with him Ichaweri. Is it possible that anyone who follows him will now come to Ichaweri? We have Rigathi Gachagua here in Mt Kenya. He is the deputy president and our leader whether anyone likes it or not and we will follow his lead. Uhuru Kenyatta is retired and he is at home. He is now an elder of the villager,” he said.

Earlier, EALA MP-elect Kanini Kega endorsed the second in command as the new Mt. Kenya kingpin.

“Gachagua did well in uniting the Mt. Kenya region. He is the only senior leader we have. We need to rally behind him as a region,

“I want to thank the Gachagua who saw that Mt Kenya region will have a problem if we are not represented in East Africa Legislative Assembly,” Kega said.
