On Tuesday, January 24, former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati appeared before the Aggrey Muchelule-led panel probing the four suspended IEBC commissioners.

Chebukati revealed that there were attempts to subvert the will of the people and violate the Constitution but the commission remained firm.

While testifying before the tribunal probing the conduct of four IEBC commissioners, Chebukati said that top officials of Azimio Coalition stormed into his office at 3 am.

“I got messages from members of staff and my security detail that a gentleman wanted to see me. They just came in, uninvited. I was in the holding room, taking a nap,

“The two walked into the room even before I gave my security detail the go-ahead to allow them in,” Chebukati said.

The former IEBC further stated that the former Jubilee Secretary General demanded alteration of presidential election results in favor of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

“On 15 August 2023 at around 3 am, I was visited by former CS Rafael Tuju, former Senator Amos Wako, and advocate Kyalo Mbobu on behalf of Azimio Coalition to discuss tallying and results,

“Tuju said that if we accept the request to moderate the results or alternatively force a run-off, we would be adequately rewarded,” he said.

Chebukati said Amos Wako told him that it was necessary that they moderate these results in favor of Raila and any contrary declaration of results would plunge the country into chaos.

The immediate former IEBC boss further claimed that the four dissenting commissioners Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya supported the proposal by Tuju and Wako.

Chebukati however maintained that he declined the request stating that he was being sufficiently renumerated.

“They suggested that there will be a reward to which I responded I am sufficiently renumerated,” he added.
