Edwin Sifuna: Your God chosen president took away subsidies, Unga shot up

by Enock Ndayala
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has assured President William Ruto that he will still lose in the 2027 presidential race even if he names Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his presidential running mate.

President William Ruto has ended the Kazi Mtaani program that offered unemployed youth environmental jobs launched by his predecessor Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto who spoke in Kibera on Tuesday, October 25, said that his Kenya Kwanza administration will instead focus on affordable housing projects to absorb more unemployed youths in the construction sector.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, October 26, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna faulted the Head of State for what he termed as misplaced priorities.

While terming Ruto a “God-chosen president”, Sifuna, a fierce critic of the president said Kenyans were currently not worried about housing which the First in Command appears to have given the project a first priority.

Sifuna instead said that majority of the Kenyans are currently struggling with harsh economic times coupled with high basic food prices.

The ODM legislator further faulted the President for taking away Unga subsidies and asked the Head of State to initiate programs that would cushion Kenyans against the pangs of hunger.

“Many calls from Nairobi hustlers. No issues with low-cost housing. But their priority is food! Your God-chosen President took away subsidies, and Unga shot up. Then he takes away Kazi Mtaani.  And asks hustlers to wait 1 year for cheap Unga. Three weeks without food you die! Google it,” Sifuna said in a Tweet.

During the August 9, presidential campaign, Ruto repeatedly faulted Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying it was the cause of skyrocketing food prices.

Ruto however, promised to bring down the cost of living in his first 100 days in office if he won the presidential race.

However, 50 days since he was sworn in, the president appears to have shifted goalposts claiming that it will take him more than 365 days to bring down the cost of living.
