In a statement to his X social media (formerly Twitter), the flamboyant politician said he misses prison life.

Sonko said the current state of prison is much better compared to the prison of the days of late President Daniel Moi.

Unlike in the 19th century when prisons were full of bedbugs, most prison is currently clean and fitted with tiles, a move he said has made him miss prison life.

“I went to visit the future learned friend/CJ/AG pale kwa prison. Siku hizi uko ni kutops hakuna kunguni, wala chawa mpaka nimemiss kurudi uko kidogo,” he said.

Sonko was convicted twice for failing to appear in court. As a consequence, he was slapped with a six-month prison term.

“Indeed I was jailed for failing to appear in court. I could not afford the fines so I opted for a jail term,” said Sonko.

Governor Sonko was convicted on March 12, 1998, in case number 675/97 after he was sentenced and ordered to pay a KSh 200,000 fine or serve a six-month jail term.

He was also ordered to pay KSh 500, 000 fines or serve six months in prison for failing to appear in court for another case.

Since he could not raise the fines, Sonko was committed to Shimo la Tewa to serve both sentences concurrently for 12 months.
