Is Kalonzo Musyoka joining Raila Odinga’s team? Wiper party insider gives answers

by Amos Khaemba

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr has come to dismiss rumors that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will be joining Azimio la Umoja, associated with Raila Odinga.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, February 2, Mutula said no signing ceremony of the agreement will take place as it had been widely speculated the previous day..

“There is no signing ceremony! Happy Wednesday folks,” Mutula tweeted.

Mutula’s comment did not entirely deny the speculation that Kalonzo Musyoka will team up with Raila under Azimio which has so far attracted more than 13 political parties.

The comment by Mutula, who is also the Wiper party Vice-chair person comes after speculations of One Kenya Alliance (OKA) joining Raila’s team emerged.

According to a Twitter post by Denis Itumbi, who is Deputy President William Ruto’s head of Digital Strategy, Kalonzo was expected to announce his intent to work with Jubilee and Azimio

“ HNIB agents are reporting that after two days of highly classified meetings, hosted in State House. OKA in a presser today will announce an intent to work with Jubilee and Azimio,

“OKA is expected to negotiate two separate agreements, one with Jubilee and another with Azimio,” Itumbi wrote on his Twitter handle.

According to Itumbi’s sources, Kalonzo was uncomfortable with Raila’s candidature but was convinced to look at the bigger picture of defeating Deputy President William Ruto.

“Do not worry about the candidate, let us focus on the common enemy,’’ Itumbi Twitted.

Since ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, joined hands with DP Ruto, there has been speculation of Kalonzo’s next move.

Even though the Wiper leader has previously ruled out working with the ODM leader, Musalia’s’ earthquake’ move placed Kalonzo in an impossible position.

“He has serious issues with Raila and Ruto. Going alone will be a guaranteed loss and joining any of them will require him to step down all issues he has raised or step down if he can,” Kalonzo vice-chairperson Mutula Kilonzo said recently in relation to Kalonzo’s available options.

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna has been quoted on a number of occasions saying there is the possibility of Kalonzo working with Raila towards the August 9 presidential election.
