Johnson Muthama: This is why it’s hard for President Uhuru to sell Raila in Mt Kenya

by Nderi Caren

Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has said it is impossible for President Uhuru Kenyatta to sell Raila Odinga in the Mt Kenya region.

According to Muthama, Uhuru had assured the Mt Kenya region that he will support his deputy William Ruto for the 2022 Presidential elections.

Therefore, Muthama argues that it is hard for Uhuru Kenyatta to go back and change the deal in order to sell Raila.

“It was an act of conmanship & sheer craftiness for H.E Uhuru Kenyatta to choose William Ruto as his running mate in 2013 & 2017 with promise of ‘kumi yangu & kumi ya ruto’,

Such promises can’t easily be erased from the minds of informed Kenyans more so those in Central Kenya,” Muthama said.

Because of this agreement, Muthama says it is hard for Uhuru to even introduce Raila Odinga to his people as his preferred successor.

“No wonder it has become so hard for Uhuru to introduce Raila Odinga to the mountain since he knows what he promised William Ruto can’t be changed overnight in that region. Amazing!,” Muthama added in a tweet.

Contrary to the opinion of Johnson Muthama, President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier stated that he did not promise Ruto anything.

However, political opponents have been questioning why President Uhuru Kenyatta has not accompanied Raila Odinga to a tour of the Mt Kenya region to prove the strength of their handshake.

Leaders from the Mt Kenya region have argued that it is hard for Uhuru to sell Raila Odinga in Mt Kenya.

“There is a certain politician that cannot be sold in Mt Kenya, and that is Raila Odinga. He can’t be sold, and even if he gains within a short time he will still lose eventually,” Nyeri County speaker said in an interview on September 13.
