“The declaration by the President, therefore, appears to suspend the Constitution and substitute the rule of law, with the rule and wishes of the executive,” said LSK President Eric Theuri.

However, speaking in Kakamega during his fifth and last day tour of the Western region remained defiant in the face of criticism from LSK and some human rights advocates regarding his recent comments about cartels in the sugar industry.

Ruto further hit out at a section of Azimio leaders accusing them of trying to defend corrupt officials in the country.

He said his move to fight the runaway corruption in the Kenya Kwanza government was unstoppable adding that the country has suffered immensely due to corruption, theft, and wastage of public resources.

“Some people like Azimio and the Law Society are issuing statements defending thieves. Let me repeat so that they can hear very well. Those thieves have three options. Leave the country, got to go to heaven,” the president said.

Adding: “We cannot continue to entertain this. We need a lasting solution. All thieves must stop their acts. There is no place for such people. Change, leave Kenya, or go to jail.”
