Ruto allies advise Kalonzo to skip Raila Odinga’s running-mate interview

by Amos Khaemba

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies have urged the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka not to embarrass himself by appearing before the Azimio One-Kenya Coalition vetting panel tasked with identifying a suitable running-mate to the ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Addressing mourners at the burial of the late Janet Muthoki, who was a daughter to UDA chairman Johnstone Muthama, in Machakos County on Monday, May 2, DP Ruto allies termed the move to subject Kalonzo to a vetting process as disrespectful.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua reminded corners that Kalonzo Musyoka was vice president to the late former President Mwai Kibaki plus he was a running game to the former prime minister twice without undergoing any vetting.

“Wavinya Ndeti you are a close associate of Kalonzo, please don’t allow Kalonzo to subject himself to humiliation and embarrassment. It will be wrong for him and the community.” Gachagua said.

“If it is not there let it be, how do people like Junet Mohamed call Kalonzo Musyoka for an interview?” Gachagua posed.

His sentiments were echoed by Machakos Town MP, Victor Munyaka wondered why the ODM leader is keen on vetting Kalonzo yet Kalonzo deputized him on two occasions.

Kalonzo Musyoka has been embarrassed in many circumstances. After being a successful running mate to Raila twice, he is now being asked to go through a vetting panel to be evaluated for the same position and we find that disrespectful and unacceptable,” said Munyaka.

On his part, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen warned the Wiper leader that the vetting process was an indicator that bad things are on the way.

“My message to Kalonzo and those others remaining in Azimio is that the kind of contempt that Uhuru meted on Ruto even to the extent of technically divorcing him from the Government since the onset of handshake will be directed to them, and it will not be too long before Kalonzo is thrown out of the Azimio axis,” Murkomen claimed.

Sentiments by DP Ruto’s allies come a few days after the ODM leader established a 7 member panel to help him in vetting those interested in being his running mate.
