President William Ruto on Thursday, October 20, led Kenyans in celebrating the 59th Mashujaa Day celebration.

The event, which was held at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi was William Ruto’s first public event since he was sworn in on Tuesday, September 13.

In his first major national event as the Head of State, William Ruto laid down key issues his Kenya Kwanza administration is planning to do ranging from economic recovery to housing projects.

For instance, the First in Command said he will from next week commission the construction of an affordable housing project which will deliver thousands of social housing units for city dwellers.

“Next week on Tuesday, I will break ground at the Kibera Soweto B in Nairobi for a housing project which will deliver thousands of social housing units. Going forward, we intend to collaborate with county governments to achieve a target of at least 5,000 units in every county,” the president said.

The president also promised to reform the National Police Service as well as ensure the hustlers have access to affordable credit facilities to uplift their businesses.

However, ODM chairman John Mbadi poked holes in President Ruto’s Mashujaa Day speech.

The vocal legislator in a statement on Thursday, October 20, termed President Ruto’s speech as the “most unpresidential speech” in Kenya’s history.

He said Ruto’s speech did not live up to a Mashujaa day speech but rather a campaign speech.

“Today, the nation was treated to the most unpresidential speech in Kenya’s history. It did not live up to a Mashujaa Day speech. It was more of a Kabsabet rally address,” John Mbadi said.

In his speech, Ruto for the first time reiterated his administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption in the country.

He clarified that his administration is committed to weeding out corruption and submitting to oversight by constitutionally mandated institutions.
