In early September, the Supreme Court of Kenya dismissed a presidential petition that had been filed by Raila Odinga challenging William Ruto’s declaration as the president.

The independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the fifth president after garnering 7.1 million

However, despite the Supreme Court’s verdict to uphold Ruto’s presidential win in the August 9, elections, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua said she does not recognize Ruto as her president.

Speaking to BBC on Thursday, October 20, Karua, a fierce critic of the first in command said it was only the law that recognizes Ruto as the First in Command but not her.

“The law accepts him, not me,” Karua said.

The ‘Iron lady’ further alleged that their victory was deferred, but she assured their supporters that they will bring it home.

In what appeared that the vocal politician would move to the East Africa Court of Justice in Tanzania, Karua said Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party will explore all legal and constitutional avenues to ensure they get justice.

“Victory is deferred, but it’s coming home, and that is the message to everyone as we explore all legal and constitutional avenues,” Karua said.

On the return of Canada-based lawyer Miguna Miguna, Karua challenged President William Ruto to apologize to the self-made general following his return from exile.

Karua said Ruto can’t completely exonerate himself from Miguna’s tribulations and that he should have issued a public apology to the lawyer during his Mashujaa Day address.

“What happened was a great mistake and atrocity by the government of Kenya of which the current president was a happy Deputy (president).

“It is an action that he cannot dissociate himself with. In fact today, I would expect that he would have apologized to Miguna on his behalf and on behalf of the president who has just retired,” Karua said.
