President aspirant George Wajackoyah has named, Justina Wamae Wamboi as his presidential running mate becoming the first woman to be considered for the position ahead of the August presidential elections.
Taking to his social media page on Thursday, April 28, Wajackoyah revealed that he settled on Wamboi after taking her through a vetting process that was headed by a retired judge.
According to the short profile provided, Wamboi is married to one Kanyi from Mathioya Constituency, and she holds a master’s degree from Jomo Kenyatta University.
According to Wajackoyah, Wamboi will be key in assisting him on various issues including economic planning.
“Justina Wamae Wamboi is officially the running mate of presidential candidate George Luchiri Wajackoyah. Having been married to Kanyi of Mathioya and a native of Dagoreti, she holds a master’s degree from Jkuat and a bachelor’s from Daystar.
” She was vetted and chosen by the presidential campaign team chaired by a retired Judge. She will assist Wajackoyah on various tasks including economic planning.” Wajackoyah wrote on Twitter.
The move by the presidential aspirant is an inspiration to many women who have been advocating for equality in leadership.
Already leading presidential candidates, Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Real Odinga are also rumored to be considering naming a woman as their running mate.
For the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition, the Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has emerged as a master’s runner in being named Raila’s running mate.
Recently a caucus of women leaders from various parties under the umbrella Azimio coalition pleaded with the former prime minister to name Karua as his deputy.
National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) party has also forwarded the name of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu to the panel mandate with vetting the possible running mate to Raila Odinga.
In the Kenya Kwanza alliance, the name of Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru and that of have been floated as the possible running mate to DP Ruto.
