This was after Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Tuesday, October 31, ruled that all senators would have 10 days to hear and determine the case against Mwangaza who was impeached by the Meru County Assembly.

However, even as the independent governor works around the clock to overturn her second impeachment, a section of women leaders from Meru County have pleaded with President William Ruto to save Mwangaza from being impeached.

“We are standing here as women who unsuccessfully vied for elective seats in Meru County, we are standing here today begging the president of this nation to protect Governor Kawira Mwanga,” the leaders said.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, October 31, the leaders dismissed the accusations leveled against Governor Kawira Mwangaza stating that what was happening in Meru was none other than male chauvinism.

The women leaders said it was wrong to victimize Kawira Mwangaza for being a woman adding that she defeated seasoned male politicians in a free and fair election.

“What is happening in Meru is male chauvinism and a repercussion patriarchal society,” they added.

They accused Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi of orchestrating the impeachment motion against Mwangaza.

“The persecutions she is going through today is because of the 2027 alignments… they are calculating their mathematics, especially Meru senator Kathuri Murungi,” the leaders added.

Mwangaza faces several charges including misappropriation and misuse of county resources, nepotism and related unethical practices, bullying, vilification, and demeaning other leaders.

A section of Meru MCAs who voted to impeach her for the second time accused the governor of embezzling County funds through her relatives, withdrew County funds through false claims of payment for supplies and services rendered by her relatives, despite being ineligible to tender for or supply goods to the County Government.
