On Monday, July 18, the United Democratic Alliance party presidential candidate William Ruto took Kenya Kwanza Alliance campaigns to Nairobi County.

The 2022 presidential election front runner drummed up support for embattled Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who is vying to be the next Nairobi governor.

Sakaja is eying to succeed Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu and will be facing off with Polycarp Igathe of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party.

On Monday, July 18, the United Democratic Alliance party presidential candidate William Ruto took Kenya Kwanza Alliance campaigns to Nairobi County.

Ruto used the occasion to comment on last week’s Nairobi gubernatorial debate between Sakaja and Igathe.

While urging the over two million voters in Nairobi to cast their votes in support of Sakaja, the former Agriculture Minister termed Igathe as a ‘project’ whose value only lies in speaking good English and wearing eyeglasses.

“The guy (Polycarp Igathe) would become valueless if you removed eyeglasses and English. Would you want Sakaja or the deep state project?” posed Ruto to the Nairobi electorate.

Ruto, who will be giving his first stab at the presidency, urged Nairobians to vote for Sakaja saying he is fit for the capital’s governorship.

He said having been born and raised in the country’s capital city, the UDA politician understands the plight the city dwellers go through.

“I want to see the votes for Sakaja, who is our Nairobi governor. He understands Nairobi, having been born in Ngara. You all heard him in the interview,” he said.

However, Igathe has refuted claims that he is President Uhuru Kenyatta‘s project in the Nairobi Gubernatorial race.

“I am not President Uhuru Kenyatta’s project and neither I’m I being propelled by him. I am a project of Nairobi residents and above all, I am a project of God,” he said in one of his latest media interviews.

Both Igathe and Sakaja vied in Nairobi in 2017 and won but Igathe later resigned after six months in office as Nairbi deputy governor.
