National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi has made public his wealth ahead of the 2022 presidential battle with ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.

Through a social media engagement forum on Thursday, November 18, the presidential hopeful said he is worth KSh 300 million.

“I’m worth approximately KSh300 million,” he said.

Muturi who has been a civil servant for over three decades said that he acquired his wealth through bank loans, salary, and businesses.

“Most of my property was acquired through bank loans, civil servant remuneration for 36 years,” Muturi added.

Muturi further challenged other presidential candidates including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Jubilee deputy party leader William Ruto to explain how they acquired their wealth.

“I support a lifestyle audit on all leaders plus an explanation of how all their wealth was acquired and this should not be done in secret,” he said.

This comes just days after a bill was tabled in the Senate seeking to compel state officers to declare their wealth in a move to curb graft in the country.

On Wednesday, November 17, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner Raila Odinga questioned the source of Deputy President William Ruto’s wealth.

Raila who was speaking in Kibra to campaign ahead of his titanic battle for the presidency with William Ruto said the salary the deputy president earns contradicts the millions of shillings he donates.

“Where is he’s getting all that money?” Raila posed amid cheers from his supporters.

Last month, an expose dubbed the Pandora Papers accused President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family of operating offshore accounts holding billions of shillings.

The report by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) saw President Kenyatta express openness to a lifestyle audit, stating that all state officers should be subjected to them.

“The movement of illicit funds, proceeds of crime, and corruption thrive in an environment of secrecy and darkness,” President Uhuru said.

“The Pandora Papers and subsequent follow-up audits will lift that veil of secrecy and darkness for those who cannot explain their assets or wealth.”
