Raila clears hotel bill after Murkomen left following Arsenal win

Arsenal roared back from a goal down to beat their rivals Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday, September 3.

England forward Marcus Rashford gave the visitors the lead against the run-off play in the first half but Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard equalized a second later.

The home side kept pressing in eight minutes of added time and were rewarded when newly signed midfield Declan Rice controlled a corner and shot past Andre Onana with the help of a deflection off Johny Evans.

There was still time for another goal as substitute Gabriel Jesus burst forward, teasing Onana before putting the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

As such, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot took to social media to recount an unexpected encounter following Manchester United’s dramatic loss to their arch-rivals Arsenal.

In a statement on Monday, September 4, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker said he was sharing a table with Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Charuiyot revealed that Murkomen, who is a strong supporter of the Red Devils, left the hotel and disappeared in thin air.

He said the former Elgeyo Marakwet senator abruptly left Senator Cheruiyot with a substantial bill as he was busy celebrating Arsenals’ third goal.

“Has anybody seen Kipchumba Murkomen? He left me with a huge bill after Declan and Gabriel did their thing. Jumped up to celebrate, only to find an empty chair and the waiter with the bill,” he said.

Cheruiyot, a close ally of President William Ruto said he was left to foot the bill alone yet his account was dry.

The situation took an unexpected twist when Raila Odinga, ODM leader, and fellow football enthusiast who was in the vicinity stepped in to settle the bill, coming to the senator’s rescue.

“Luckily, fellow Gooner Raila Odinga was in the vicinity. After celebrations, he cleared the bill,” stated Cheruiyot.
