Raila Odinga says President Uhuru rigged him out but not again

by Enock Ndayala
President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked the Mt Kenya region to be ready for a Raila Odinga ahead of the August 9 General Election

ODM leader Raila Odinga has sensationally claimed that Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta rigged him out in the previous elections.

Speaking in Taita Taveta during an Azimio la Umoja campaign rally on Tuesday, February 22, the former prime minister however assured his supporters that he will not be rigged out once again in the August 9, General Election.

While he did not directly say it was President Uhuru Kenyatta, the events of the two past elections show that the presidential hopeful was referring to the first in command.

“Nyinyi hapa mmesimama na baba milele. 2007, 2013 to 2017mmepiga kura kwa fujo kwa baba.  Kura yenu ilinyesha kama mvua lakini ikifika Nairobi inafanyiwa ukarabati. Sasa mjinga ameerevuka,”

Loosely translated to: “You have stood with me forever. From 2007, 2013 to 2017 you have voted aggressively for Raila Odinga. Your vote rained like rain but when it arrives in Nairobi it is being repaired. Now am no longer a fool,” Raila said.

In 2013, Raila Odinga who vied for the presidency under the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) protested the presidential results, a petition that the High Court termed as null and void.

But Raila in 2017, the Supreme Court nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid and directed that the presidential elections be conducted afresh within 90 days.

Raila’s utterances come barely days after Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege sensationally claimed that they rigged the 2007 presidential elections.

Chege who was speaking at a public rally in Isibuye in Vihiga County on February 10, 2022, during the Azimio la Umoja Movement mobilization rally said they could easily rig Deputy President William Ruto.

“Kule central nimeskia hapawengine wakisema hapa tuliwaibia, kuna kaukweli kidogo. Lakini mjue kama tulijua kuiba si ata hii tutafanya nini…alafu…alafu,

“(In Central, I have heard here some people saying that we stole from them. There is some truth in that. They should know that if we knew how to steal then, why not in this? Will we not do something… then… then…then),” she said.
