On Sunday, January 22, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua vowed to deal firmly with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The second in command said he was the son of mau mau and that he was Raila’s antidote.
“Leave it to us to handle this old man’s (Raila) situation. The mau mau’s offspring is this man’s medicine. Rice, coffee, tea, and hustler fund are all appreciated. But, you don’t interfere with this man’s business,” Gachagua stated.
However, on Monday, January 23, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate unleashed a scathing rejoinder to Gachagua who had vowed to curtail him.
Speaking at the Kamukunji Grounds shortly after jetting back from his trip to South Africa, the veteran opposition lashed out at Gachagua saying that he was not born when Mau Mau was fighting for independence.
“Kila mara anatishia eti yeye ni mtoto wa mau mau. Nataka kuambia yeye, alikuwa hajazaliwa (Every time threatens that he is the son of mau mau. I want to tell you, he was not born,” Raila said.
Raila further warned the second in command against associating himself with the freedom fighters for political expedience.
He said his father late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was the one who fought for the freedom of the mau mau fighters.
“Yule ambaye alitetea maumau kutoka jela ni Jaramogi Oginga Odinga (The one who defended maumau from prison is Jaramogi Oginga Odinga),” Raila added.
The opposition leader further wondered how Gachagua would deal with him firmly when his dad could not attempt to cross Raila’s lane.
“Huyu kijna Gachaguahajui pahali tumetoka. Hata baba yake alikuwa hawezi nitishia mimi. Mimi nilifungwa jela mara tatu. Mimi sio rika yake kimaisha na hata kisiasa. Nataka kuambia Ruto na Gachagua waache upuzi, Kenya sio yao,” Raila added.
