Raila to jail thieves in first 100 days if he wins August polls

by Amos Khaemba
A few months after the Kenya Kwanza regime took over, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) withdrew most of the cases in which high-profile politicians were involved.

ODM leader Raila Odinga promised a raft of actions aimed at combating corruption in his first 100 days in office should he win the August General Election.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Monday, May 2 during the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya campaign trail, Odinga promised to send to prison corrupt people whom he had are the main obstacle to the economic development of the country.

Without mentioning names the former premier said the Kenya Kwanza alliance is comprised of corrupt people who have stolen government resources.

“We will defeat these people (Kenya Kwanza). Once we assume power, we will deal with corruption. A lot will change in the first 100 days of Baba’s government,” the ODM leader said.

“Wezi wote maskandi Yao itakuwa jela mama Hawa watu wanaharibu mali taifa letu..sisi tukishika Watamu ya uongozi mtaona,” Raila said.

Loosely translated to, “All corrupt people will have prison as their new home because these people are misusing government resources. Once we take power you will see a lot of changes”

Further, the ODM leader also promised to reduce the prices of basic commodities as well as fuel should he assume the presidency.

“Our people are tired. Kenyans are burdened with high prices of basic commodities. Fuel prices are high so is maize flour. We will change all that,” he said.

This is not the first time the former prime minister is pledging to jail corrupt leaders, should he form the next government.

Addressing a public rally in Thika on January 15, the former Prime Minister claimed that DP Ruto and his allies were thieves who could do nothing significant if they ascended to power.

Raila said that upon being elected, he will ensure Ruto and his men go to jail for allegedly stealing from the public during their ten-year stint in government.

“I will take them all to Kamiti. Kenyans are not fools,” the ODM leader vowed.
