The United States has dismissed a recent survey by Info Track which showed that the majority of Kenyans believe the country was headed in the wrong direction.

An opinion poll conducted on September 10 2023 and released two days later showed that only 34 percent of Kenyans believed the country was headed in the right direction.

“53 percent of Kenyans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction,” said Angela Ambitho, the firm’s director, in her report, which shows Kenyans are disappointed with how President William Ruto has addressed issues such as the high cost of living, unemployment, and governance.

However, in what appears to be a contradiction with the survey, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken lauded Kenya’s President William Ruto’s leadership skill saying the country was headed in the right direction.

Speaking during a meeting with President Ruto in New York, Blinken said Kenya had under the leadership of President William Ruto established itself as a champion of regional peace and security.

He further stated that the country has made strides in eradicating the rampant corruption and abuse of public resources.

“The steps being taken to tackle corruption in Kenya are commendable,” Blinken said.

President William Ruto has been in office for only one year after he took over the wheels of power from now-retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Another poll conducted by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA), a Nairobi-based research firm, further revealed that the majority of Kenyans were dissatisfied with how President Ruto was ruling, a clear indication that the country was headed in the wrong direction.

“The living standards of the majority of Kenyans are worse than they were a year ago; they are poorer,” This conclusion was drawn after conducting a survey in different parts of the country between 8 and 10 September.
