Kenya’s President William Ruto on Monday, August 28, vowed to dismantle cartels, causing confusion in the sugar sub-sector.

Ruto said his Kenya Kwanza government would no longer entertain cases lodged in court at the expense of the revival of the ailing sugar factories.

During his development tour of Western Kenya, a tough-talking Ruto challenged cartels in the sugar industry to either flee the country, go to jail or ‘go to heaven’.

“There are cartels there. I have told them to leave. The company belongs to the people and we shall streamline it. There is no case there,

“If they want a fight, they should leave Kenya or I will jail them or they should go to heaven,” the Head of State told a cheerful crowd in Nzoia, Bungoma County.

However, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka condemned the Head of State for issuing death threats against sugar cartels.

Onyonka, who was elected on an ODM party ticket, a constituent of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition said if someone has broken the law, let him be heard.

“When the President stands up and talks about an individual, that individual, whether he has broken the law or not, is put in a position where I see unfairness,

“If someone has broken the law let them go through the due process,” Onyonka said during an interview on Citizen TV.

Ruto’s death threats to Sugar tycoons came a few hours after Rai Group Billionaire Jaswant Rai was kidnapped by unknown men and later released.

A CEO of a local bank accused of aiding Rai in laundering money was also arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers.
