African head of states pitched camp in Uganda on May, 12 to witness the inauguration ceremony of their colleague, Yoweri Museveni.
The event held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala attracted African leaders from 6 countries.
They included;
1.President Uhuru Kenyatta- Kenya
2. Felix Tshisekedi – DR Congo
3. Alpha Conde – Guinea
4. Salva Kiir Mayardit – South Sudan
5. Hague Geingob – Namibia
6. Nana Akufo Addo (Ghana)
7. Emmerson Mnangagwa – Zimbabwe
8. Mohamed Abdullahi Faarmajo -Somalia
9. Evariste Ndayishimiye -Burundi
10. Samia Suluhu Hassan -Tanzania and
11. Sahle-Work Zewde -Ethiopia.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the current Chairperson of the East African Community, was accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Raychelle Omamo (Foreign Affairs), Peter Munya (Agriculture) and James Macharia (Infrastructure).
Museveni was sworn- in to serve his 6 term in office which will see an extension of his 35-year rule in the country.
He clinched the presidential seat in the January 2021 General Election where he defeated his competitor, Robert Kyangulangi alias Bobi Wine.
Museveni’s swearing-in was slowed down by multiple petitions filed by Bobi Wine, contesting the elections results.
Kyagulanyi, who ran on the ticket of opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), filed the petition on February 1, 2021, on the grounds that the election was not free nor fair, and was marred with gross irregularities, violence and outright rigging.
On March 8, the Ugandan pop-star withdrew his election petition, showing that he had conceded defeat.
However, he cited his mistrust in the Ugandan court as the reason why he was withdrawing his petition.
The elections results were also contested by foreign organizations in the country who termed dictatorial.
