Election in kenya: Big names who lost in the 2022 General Election

On Tuesday, August 9, more than 14 million registered of the 22 million voters across the country went on the ballot to cast their votes.

This year’s General Election saw big names and seasoned politicians lose to little-known politicians and new entrants in the political arena.

Among those who were floored include close allies President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party flag bearer Raila Odinga.

On Tuesday, August 9, more than 14 million registered voters across the country went on the ballot to cast their votes.

National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya, Jubilee party director of elections Kanini Kega, and Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni were among those who lost in the just concluded General Election.

Kimunya was dislodged by Wanjiku Muhia of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) while Kanini Kega was floored by Njoroge Wainaina, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni was on the other hand toppled by George Gachagua of UDA.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, a close ally of the deputy president, four-term Taveta MP Naomi Shaban, Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, and former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) boss Nelson Havi were also rejected by voters.

Kuria, who was eying the Kiambu gubernatorial seat on a Chama Cha Kazi party ticket conceded defeat way before the official results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Alfred Keter, who has bitterly fallen out with Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto was floored by Benard Kitur of UDA.

Kitur garnered 23,503 votes while Keter scooped 18,037 votes out of the total 41,979 votes cast.

Others were Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir and renowned city criminal lawyer Cliff Ombetta.

Korir lost the Lang’ata parliamentary seat to comedian Jalang’o.

Havi who was eying the Westlands parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket lost to the incumbent Tim Wanyonyi of the ODM party.

Busi Governor Sospeter Ojamong who was eying the Teso South parliamentary seat lost to former MP Mary Emase.

In Bungoma, governor Wycliffe Wangamati appeared defeated at the hands of Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka Makelo although the IEBC had not announced the official results.
