Trade and Investment CS Moses Kuria was on Wednesday, September 20, forced to apologize to Kenyans over his recent remarks on the cost of fuel.

This was after the CS told Kenyans complaining about the hike in fuel price to tighten their belts adding that the cost would progressively increase by KSh 10 every month.

In his apology, the outspoken CS said that he had been advised by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and his master that his remarks were incorrect and insensitive.

The CS went on to say that he has now been made to understand the price of fuel will drop, hence his apology.

“Dear Kenyans. On Friday, September 15, I made some comments indicating that the price of fuel is likely to go up in the coming months owing to global dynamics.

“I have since been advised by people like Boni Khalwale and his master that the statement was incorrect, insensitive, and arrogant. I am made to now understand that the price will come down. I apologize profusely since to err is human,” Kuria said.

However, Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale and his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna have dismissed Kuria’s apologies to Kenyans.

Appearing on Citizen TV’s Breakfast show on Thursday, September 21, the two leaders said that the CS was being sarcastic and was not sincere with his apology.

“The tone in his apology was nothing but sarcasm. There was no apology there,” Kakamega senator Boni Khalwal said.

While dismissing Kuria’s apology, Sifuna who is also the ODM party Secretary General said that one could read sarcasm from CS Kuria’s tweet from miles away.

“Moses Kuria’s tweet was not an apology; we can tell sarcasm from a mile away. If leaders knew that the people have a way of affecting their would not speak to Kenyans like Ndii and Kuria,” Sifuna said.
