Opposition leader Raila Odinga's quest to expel rebel ODM Members of Assembly (MPs) from the Orange party has for the second attempt hit a snag.

Comedian turned-politician Phelix Odiwour, alias Jalang’o won the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) party primaries for Lang’ata parliamentary seat.

The renowned radio presenter garnered 3,509 votes defeating his main competitor Oscar Omoke who got 1,612.

Other contestants in the race got below 1,000 votes; Sally Bollo got 138 votes, Taa Vivienne had 121 votes, Kahiga Musaari Syongoh 197, and Wangusi Nathan Barasa got 146 votes.

Taking on social media Jalang’o thanked the residents for turning up to vote for him saying the real work has just begun.

“God has given me the chance to fly the Azimio Flag in the August Elections!! Thank you Langa’ta! We are one step in! Now the real work begins!! God above everything !!” Jalang’o wrote on Instagram after confirming his win.

With the win, the comedian will now fly the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance ticket in Lang’ata where a fierce battle is expected between him and the incumbent Nixon Korir.

Kori will be defending his seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket under the umbrella of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Lang’ata constituency has a special place in the ODM leader Raila Odinga’s political life as he had been Lang’ata MP previously comprising Lang’ata and Kibera for more than 20 years.

In the 2017 elections Nixon Korir who was considered an outsider pulled a surprise move by winning the seat with 41,086 votes, beating ODM’s Oscar Omoke who garnered 39,593 votes.

This year’s battle will also be shaped by the national politics biting Deputy President William Ruto against the ODM leader.

With 107 days to the General Election, what remains to be seen is whether Jalang’o will reclaim the Baba’s bedroom or Korir will recapture it again.
