President Uhuru Kenyatta’s condolence message to the family of Senator Prengei has been unwelcomed by a section of Kenyans.

Being the first Senator from the Ogiek Community, Uhuru said that Prengei’s death is a blow to the minority community.

“His deep desire to uplift, mentor, and nurture the Kenyan youth especially those from our minority groups including his Ogiek Community endeared him to many

“He was determined in his quest to bridge the gap and position minority communities at the core of our national development agenda,” the President said.

However, his condolence message has not been welcomed by a section of Kenyans, who accused the Head of State of hypocrisy.

Led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the dissatisfied people shared a letter from Jubilee Party, expelling Senator Prengei.

Under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Jubile Party expelled the nominated Senator on February 8, 2021.

Victor Prengei, together with 5 other nominated Senators were expelled from Jubilee Party on grounds of gross misconduct, and insubordination.

This is why Uhuru’s condolence message has bee termed hypocritical.

Senator Victor Prengei died on Monday, August 17 after suffering severe injuries from a road accident.

At around 9:15 PM, the Senator who was heading to Ravine area crashed his vehicle in a self-involved road accident.

“It happened that the said motor vehicle was from Nakuru general direction heading towards Ravine general direction and on reaching at the location of the accident, the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road to the right side as one faces Kiamunyi general direction, hit the wall and finally rested there,” read the police report.
