by Enock Ndayala

ODM leader Raila Odinga has for the first time disclosed that he will only serve one term as the president ahead of the much-awaited 2022 General Election.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 29, at Matuga Girls’ High School in Kwale County during his Azimio La Umoja popularization campaign, Raila allayed fears that he is looking for political fame and power to benefit himself.

Raila who is among the 2022 presidential front runners further said he would lead the country for the third and final revolution by uprooting the corrupted system of governance and establishing a strong foundation for socioeconomic and political growth.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has for the first time disclosed that he will only serve one term as the president ahead of the much-awaited 2022 General Election.

“I don’t dream of staying in power forever but I want to live good leadership for the future generation to come,” Raila Odinga said.

The former Prime Minister becomes the first presidential aspirant to set the record clear that he will not be seeking re-election in 2027 should he succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year’s General Election.

This is the first time Raila has hinted at the possibility that he will be a one-term president.

Raila said time is ripe for the country to devise new ways of tapping investments and creating employment opportunities for the benefit of every citizen and not a few individuals.

“We are writing our manifesto and it will focus on healthcare, employment for the youth, improving income flow and development among other issues,” he said.

He took a swipe at deputy president William Ruto’s hustler narrative warning Kenyans against boarding the wheelbarrow slogan.

“Don’t be told that Kazi Ni Kazi, we want you to have good employment, not just a job,” Raila said.

Over the weekend, Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa claimed that President Uhuru’s handshake partner will be a one-term president.

Wamalwa who was drumming up support for the ODM leader asked the Luhya community to rally behind Raila so that he can easily hand over power to them once he retires at the end of his first term.

“(Raila) Odinga is old and will only serve one term, if we are loyal it is easy for us to be in the main succession politics,” Wamalwa said.
