William Ruto whishes to be pastor when he quits politics

by Enock Ndayala

Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto has given a hint of what he aspires to do if and when he exits politics, a profession he has been in since the early 90’s.

Speaking on Monday, December 06, at the Anglican Church of Kenya (A.C.K), Nyeri Diocese in Nyeri town, the deputy president said even though he is not a pastor, he would be very happy to help people get into the kingdom of God after quitting politics.

“Although I am not a preacher, I have a Christian background. I have told the bishops today that when I am done with leadership I want to be an evangelist because I want to be a contributor towards people going to heaven,” William Ruto said.

Ruto who is Nyeri town for a third day to popularize his 2022 presidential ambition said his campaign slogan popularly known as the Bottom-Up was derived from the Holy book where the lord talked about raising the poor from the dust.

“As Christians, you might be wondering what this bottom-up is all about. But note this: the story of bottom-up is from psalms 113:7-8, where the lord talks about raising the poor from the dust,

“In Acts 20:35, Paul tells us not to forget the weak… for it is the Lord Jesus Christ himself who said it is more blessed to give than to receive. That is why in our program we are saying we must build a nation that brings everybody on board, right-front the bottom,” he added.

The deputy president is in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to campaign ahead of his for the Presidency with ODM leader Raila Odinga in August 2022.

William Ruto joined politics in the early 90’s through the popular Youth for KANU (YK92), where he was youth mobiliser for then president Daniel Moi.

He then became a Member of Parliament representing Eldoret North and then Cabinet Minister in former president Mwai Kibaki’s second term between 2007-2013.

He teamed up with Uhuru Kenyatta to form a strong team which won the presidency in 2013 and 2017.

He now wants to aspired to be Kenya’s next president where he faces a tough challenge against veteran politician Raila Odinga.
