Claims of secret nomination certificates hit Raila’s party, ODM

Tension has rocked Raila Odinga’s led ODM party after it emerged that some hopefuls have been issued with nomination certificates.

But in a statement issued on Thursday, February 10, the Orange party allayed fears that some hopefuls had been issued with nominations certificate warning that those who would be found propagating lies will face the full wrath of the law.

“There are people (aspirants) some holding party positions going around their respective areas claiming that they already have nomination certificates for the August 9 General Election,

“The ODM National Elections Board is warning such individuals to desist from misleading and disenfranchising other party members,” the party said in a statement posted on its official Twitter handle.

The party further said it is expected to discuss the nomination process under the Azimio Party and the NEB will share the agreed process after the conclusion of the negotiated agreement.

“This will provide better particulars on the dates when the primaries will take place in the different regions and Counties,” Raila’.

While assuring hopefuls of a fair nomination exercise, the party further said it will hold a joint nomination with the ruling outfit Jubilee under the Azimio la Umoja umbrella.

The party stated that it was waiting for the outcome of the agreement among all other parties under the Azikmio la Umoja banner urging its supporters to register as party members.

On Sunday, February 6, both ODM party director of elections Junet Mohamed and Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju while in Migori county said the coalition will be under Azimio.

 “We will conduct joint party primaries under Azimio la Umoja coalition because we are partners, it will also go towards managing the business of the country jointly,” Junet said.

Earlier on Tuju said a committee has been formed from both parties which are working on how to carry joint nominations.

“We will champion for a common course, we are in the final stages of finalizing the coalition talks,” he said.
