Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has proposed physical punishment for politicians who are opposing President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kibicho said that the rebels are causing trouble and should be punished by his boss Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Speaking during a security meeting on Monday, November 1, the Interior PS said he and other state officers were tasked with protecting Kenyans.

“Let us discipline them if we have to. Let them cry if they want to. For us, we shall be doing that work given unto us by the President. We shall be accountable to God and the Head of State if we let the people down,” Kibicho said.

While responding to a call from Ruto allies to have Fed Matiang’i resign, Kibicho told him not to bow to their demands.

At the same sitting, Matiang’i told off William Ruto allies over their push for his resignation.

He said that they intended to distract him and security officers from executing their responsibilities of ensuring the protection for all stakeholders ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Matiang’i also defended his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru from allegations of interfering with the mandate of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

“We, in the security sector, do not conduct elections – that is the mandate of the IEBC, and our work to support the Commission by providing security,”Matiang’i said.

He told his colleagues who were being attacked by Ruto allies to stay firm and do their jobs.

“Don’t be intimidated by threats. You are only answerable and accountable to the people of Kenya, and your job is to uphold the zero-tolerance policy on those who encourage political intolerance,” he said.

Ruto allies have been accusing Matiang’i, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, and Health CS Mutahi Kagwe of being partisan, favoring Raila Odinga.
