Mt. Kenya region is deeply divided over the 2022 General Election, and there is only one beneficiary from this conflict, Raila Amollo Odinga.
In the colonial times, the divide and rule strategy worked well, but for Raila Odinga, he has found a divided house, and will easily lead it.
With the division in the Mt Kenya region, there is a possibility that residents will not vote as a block come 2022.
Deputy President William Ruto already has a huge following from Central Kenya, which guarantees him a huge number of votes.
On the other hand, president Uhuru Kenyatta also enjoys a certain level of monopoly in the region since he is their official kingpin.
Whoever, president Uhuru endorses will battle it out with Ruto’s team, leading to more division.
Raila Odinga will stand a better chance to win, since he will stand out as the better option in between opposing factions.
Even before president Uhuru declares his preferred successor, some of his allies including Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe and Nominated MP Maina Kamanda are supporting Raila.
Elders from Mt Kenya have also warmed up to Raila and Uhuru’s handshake, and the former has won their hearts.
Recently, the region has been greatly divided by the endorsement of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi as the regional kingpin.
His coronation has been welcomed by DP Ruto’s Tanga Tanga camp and faced opposition from Uhuru’s Kieleweke camp.
Tanga Tanga politicians are warming up to Muturi, hoping that Ruto will select him as his running mate come 2022.
Muturi’s coronation has not only divided politicians, but also elders who are determinants of what direction the region takes in 2022.
These instances reflect a divided ‘House of Mumbi’ that Raila can easily conquer.
