Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Esther Irungu has shared her journey on how she landed the plum county job.
The youthful legislator revealed that she had to sacrifice a lot of her time and resources to get the nomination.
In an interview with TV47 on Friday, September 29, Esther disclosed that in the build-up to the August 9, General Election, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro called her and asked her to volunteer at the then newly formed UDA party offices.
“Ndindi Nyoro once called me and told me that Esther, you are vocal but for you to be noticed, I want you to go and volunteer to a certain office,
“I volunteered at Rigathi Gachagua’s office; he wasn’t a Deputy President then, for six to seven months,” she stated.
Esther, who was nominated under UDA, a party heavily linked to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his boss William Ruto further said she would not be a county legislator if she had turned down the call.
“If I had refused to go and volunteer at DP Gachagua’s office, I could not be an MCA right now,” she added.
The youthful legislator further slammed Kenyan graduates who are fond of crying about the unemployment crisis.
She took issues with the youths stating that the majority of them want to be employed yet they don’t have time to volunteer and get mentored before being hired.
“The expectations of most of the youths are to be called, given something small, and go home but how many do volunteer? For you to be mentored, you need to first sacrifice your time and the little resources you have,” she stated.
