“He (Hassan Joho) received funds from the national government, but there is nothing to show for it. As a leader, you must find a mechanism to help your people. Give us a solution, you have the resources,” Amir said.

Amir said that his reason for joining William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance camp is because he believes it has a good plan for Mombasa County.

He said that Mombasa residents have suffered enough under the leadership of Hassan Joho and the Orange Democratic Movement led by Raila Odinga.

“We now have Ruto who is going to deliver that vision for the people of Mombasa. Joho had the opportunities to help the people but he failed.

“Look at Bangladesh, people are struggling due to lack of water yet we have leaders who have been in power for so many years,” Amir explained.

Hassan Joho’s brother, who aspires to clinch the Mombasa Senatorial seat under the UDA Party in th e2022 General Election said that his decision has not divided his family.

Even though Hassan Joho is the deputy party leader of ODM, Amir says he has a democratic right to choose his political affiliation.

“The party doesn’t matter. I am just trying to help the people at the bottom who have been overlooked for a long time and this party is the party that has the vision to elevate those people,” he said.

Amir is a half brother of the Mombasa Governor kas they are born of the same father but different mothers.
