Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta bitterly fell out with his deputy William Ruto over suspected 2022 succession politics.
Deputy President William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will be facing off with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Uhuru who co-formed the Jubilee Government with the former Agriculture Minister has since endorsed DP Ruto’s bitter rival Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance.
On Wednesday, June 22, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen sensationally claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s wife Mama Margaret Kenyatta will not vote for his husband’s preferred candidate.
Speaking at the burial of former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto’s mother, the legislator said that Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta is a supporter of the Kenya Kwanza political formation.
“The only person who joined Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance is Uhuru, and we know Margaret will vote for us. Even her face tells it. The person whose change we should pray for is Uhuru Kenyatta,” Murkomen said.
Since she became Kenya’s First Lady in 2013, Uhuru’s wife has shunned the political limelight and has never publicly announced her preferred presidential candidate even as the 2022 elections near.
However, the Head of State has thrown his weight behind the 2022 presidential front runner Raila Odinga saying that he is the best person to take over the reins of power.
On Sunday, June 19, the outgoing first in command rallied the over 1.5 million strong Akorino faithful behind his handshake partner Raila Odinga in the August 9, elections.
Uhuru offered the Akorino more than KSh 100 million including a five-piece of land in Naivasha where the church will build its general council headquarters.
While calling on the church to rally behind his longtime political foes, Uhuru assured the Akorino faithful that they will be safe under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya government.
