Kenya’s President William Ruto on Monday, August 7, launched several projects in Nyeri County.

Among those launched include the tarmacking of the 45-Kilometre Ichamara-Rutune road in Mukuruwe-ini Constituency.

Addressing residents after the launch, the Head of State asked assured locals that the road will be complete in less than six months.

Ruto, who is on a five-day development tour of the Mt Kenya region joked that the residents should punish Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen if the roads are not tarmacked within six months.

The president jokingly asked locals to take Murkomen’s wife and children back should he fail to fulfill the task within the stipulated time.

“Nimeskia mko na maneno na huyu Murkomen . Nimeambia Murkomen asipotengeza hii barabara muchukue mke wenu pamoja na watoto. Mtu akiwaletea hasara mnamweka hasara pia yeye. Tumekubaliana hii sehemu ya barabara ikamilishwe in six months. Iwe imeweekwa lami,” he stated.

Loosely translates to: “I have instructed Murkomen to complete the roads in the area within six months, and if he fails to do so within the given time I am urging you to take back his wife and children.”

Critics however took on President William Ruto for allegedly launching projects that had been launched by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.

In what appeared that the claims were true, the president made it clear that some of the projects he was launching were launched by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta but were stalled after opposition leader Raila Odinga’s involvement in the Jubilee administration.

“We had started construction of these roads but Raila interfered with our government and disrupted it. Now that we have kicked him (Raila) out of our way all stalled projects will resume,” the president added.
