Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, August 6, announced President William Ruto as the new leader of the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua who was speaking at Sagana State Lodge said that the Head of State had fulfilled all the traditional requirements for ont to be declared the region’s kingpin.

“I want to announce that you (Ruto) are now the confirmed leader of the Mt Kenya region in a traditional way. The way we receive a king,” Gachgua said.

However, in a series of Tweets on Monday, August 7, former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando wa Kabando downplayed Ruto’s coronation as the region’s kingpin.

“Rais Ruto: Don’t be lied to that your critics hate you. You know some of us well; we’ll say it with clean hearts. Even in Kibaki’s and Uhuru’s era, we spoke boldly against any excesses,

“Sir you’re not and cannot be Mt. Kenya kingpin. We got no kings here. The mountain is not ok,” Kabando said.

Kabando who unsuccessfully contested for the Mukurweini parliamentary seat in the August 2022 election further accused the second in command of holding the president hostage.

“Ruto is a hostage of paranoia, phobia, and myopia wallowing in a miasma of deceit,” he added.

The battle between who is Mt Kenya’s kingpin has been there since President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure and is believed to have split the region not only between the East and the West but also between Kieleweke and Tangatanga.

The Kielweke faction led by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni still believes retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is the Mt Kenya kingpin.

Tangatanga on the other hand led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the other side believes that the former Mathira MP is the new Mt Kenya kingpin following his election into the country’s second highest office.
