Mutahi Ngunyi: I will not forgive Raila if he fails to become president

by Enock Ndayala

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has opined that ODM leader Raila Odinga has the best chance of beating Deputy President William Ruto in this year’s General Election.

Ngunyi, a fierce critic of the former Jubilee deputy party leader argues that Raila who has received the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ‘deep state’ has all that it takes to become the next tenant of the house on the hill.

While warning the former prime minister against solely banking on the ‘deep state’, the analysts advised the Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer to work hard stating that he and other supporters will never forgive him if he fails to become the president.

“To our friend Raila Odinga, we want to give him counsel. If he will rely on the deep state to win this election then he will fail dismally and we will not forgive him for this failure,” Ngunyi said adding that the deep state should only come in to bolster Raila’s win.

While citing the 2002 incident in which the state-backed candidate (Uhuru Kenyatta) lost to retired President Mwai Kibaki, Ngunyi said that Raila may easily lose to William Ruto just like the Jubilee party lost in the previous by-elections including Kiambaa.

“2002 was the most fervent election we had. People sang “yote yawezekana bila Moi (everything is possible without (late retired president Daniel) Moi)”…and elections history show 2002 recorded the lowest voter turnout ever at 55 percent,” he said.

“The deep state will disappoint him (Raila Odinga) and he will lose an election that was his. Evidence is in the recent by-elections. Kiambaa was handled by the deep state and we lost. Juja in Kiambu and I am sure the president must have been miffed and the several MCA by-elections that were lost by Jubiulee party,” Mutahi Ngunyi said.
