The ODM National Chairman John Mbadi has withdrawn from the Homa Bay gubernatorial race ahead of the ODM primaries set to begin on April 1.

In a Facebook post on Monday, March 28, Mbadi said that he has opted to concentrate on campaigning for the ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“In the interest of these, I have today withdrawn my bid from the Homabay County gubernatorial race. I will therefore henceforth place more effort in the Azimio presidential bid and the nationwide bid to have ODM secure as many seats as possible…tasks that I am sure I can positively add value to.” Mbadi said.

The ODM chair said out that this was the most difficult decision that he had to make in the recent past.

The National Assembly Minority leader reiterated his commitment to ODM and more specifically to the party leader, which is what advised his decision.

“What has however made it doable is my unquestioned commitment to the ODM national agenda, the quest for national growth and stability, and of course my unwavering support to Raila Odinga’s presidential bid,” Mbadi stated.

The move by Mbadi come after the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate called on his brigades to give consensus preference instead of party primaries.

Homabay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga is now left to battle it out with Evans Kidero and former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga.

Others in the race include Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers Secretary General Akello Misori, Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata, and businessman Sam Wakiaga.
