The ODM leader Raila Odinga has said that his party is investigating the incidence where two journalists were assaulted by party goons.

Through a press statement on Thursday, March 24, Raila’s campaign spokesperson Makau Mutua said that any form of violence has no place in society.

Mutua opined that Raila’s party has always and will always advocate for freedom of expression in the country.

“ODM and the Azimio la Umoja campaign have zero tolerance for any forms of intimidation and violence against anyone, including a journalist,” Mutua stated.

“The leadership of ODM has always fought and continues to fight for a free press and was at the forefront of the struggle for the 2010 constitution, which,

“And among other laws, protects the freedoms of expression, association, and related expressive rights,” He added.

Mutua noted that the party is reviewing the reports of the attack and will take action once investigations are complete.

The statement from Raila’s campaign spokesperson come after the incident was widely condemned by the Media Council of Kenya and Kenya Union of Journalists (KuJ) demanding the arrest of the suspects.

KUJ boss Eric Oduor had condemned the ugly incident and called on the police to expedite investigations on the matter and have the culprits face the law.

“We call upon the police to investigate the attacks on the journalists and the culprits prosecuted without further delays,” Oduor said in a statement.

The two Moses Nyamori of Standard Digital and Luke Awich of the Star newspaper were reportedly attacked on Thursday, March 24, at the precincts of the Chungwa house over alleged stories they carried in their respective publication last week.
