Deputy President William Ruto is expected to face stiff competition from his political nemesis Raila Odinga in the Nairobi capital elections.

Raila Odinga, who runs the Azimio coalition with the help of President Uhuru Kenyatta, has organized a team that he hopes will give William Ruto’s UDA a run for his money.

Political analysts in the country have compared the Nairobi gubernatorial race to that of the country’s top seat pitying William Ruto and Raila Odinga.

To ensure that the Azimio control the City Hall, a county that controls more revenue than any other town in East Africa, Raila has fronted former deputy governor Polycarp Igathe to face off with UDA’s Johnson Sakaja.

While Igathe who will be deputized by Philip Kaloki says he will send Sakaja home three minutes to 9:00 am on Tuesday, August 9, Kenyans on the other side claim that Igathe is too weak to wrestle Sakaja.

Igathe, who Kenyans think is a project of the oligarch says he is banking on educated people to send Sakaja into the political cold for the next five years.

“We will beat him (Sakaja) at exactly 8:57 am. It will be a done job. Because all educated people and those who are my supporters wake up at 5:00 am. They would have lined up and by 6:00 am they have voted. At 8:57 am we will have finished that job… Three minutes to 9:00 am he will have lost the election and this will be an Azimio ticket,” Igathe said.

However, a section of city dwellers has faulted Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party for fronting Igathe.

The residents opined that Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi was better placed to face off with Sakaja saying by fronting Igathe, Sakaja will win by 6:00 am.

“Picking Polycarp Igathe to run on Azimio Ticket for Nairobi Governor will be handing over Nairobi top seat to Johnson Sakaja on a silver plate. Sakaja will have Igathe for dinner mapema sana. Let’s stop playing aki! Tukuwe serious!” Wanjiru wrote on Twitter.

Another showdown is expected when ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna will be facing off with Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and in the Women Rep race where UDA’s Millicent Omanga will be seeking to unseat ODM’s and incumbent Esther Passaris.
