William Ruto to allow Miguna back into the country if elected president

by Amos Khaemba

Deputy President Willaim Ruto has promised to allow the exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna back into the country if he ascends to power in the coming August polls.

Speaking in an interview with Voice of America (VOA) on Saturday, March 4, Ruto said Miguna should be dealt with in accordance with the law if what he did was illegal, instead of being exiled.

“We will bring back Miguna Miguna in the country within the shortest time possible when I become President,” DP Ruto said in the interview.

“This is because he’s Kenyan and even if he has committed a crime, our country has laws in place. I don’t see any need for having refugees from other countries while our very own is a refugee in another country.” DP Ruto added.

The outspoken lawyer who currently resides in Canada was deported in 2018 over the mock swearing-in of the ODM leader Raila Odinga as the ‘people’s president.

The firebrand lawyer has attempted to return to the country on several occasions on the strength of court orders but the government has been adamant that he needs to reapply for citizenship afresh.

The lawyer who is a critic of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former prime minister recently sensationally claimed that DP Ruto will still defeat Raila Odinga in the presidential election even if the elections are rigged.

The controversial barrister recently declared his intention to run for the Nairobi governor’s seat in the forthcoming August General Elections.

“I intend to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat. I am a registered voter and I can run for office,” Miguna wrote on Twitter.

“I will be running on a party yet to be declared; that is where it is. Wait for the announcement, if I change my mind, I will let you know,” Miguna added.
