President William Ruto had been scheduled to tour the Nyanza region and launch development projects starting Friday, October 6.

On Tuesday, September 27, President William Ruto unveiled his cabinet nominees for consideration by the National Assembly once the 13th parliament convenes for sittings.

Among those who were appointed for consideration include Aden Duale, Kithure Kindiki, Moses Kuria, Njuguna Ndung’u, Ababu Namwamba, Aisha Jumwa, Kipchumba Murkomen, Zacharia Mwangi, Mithika Linturi, and Nakhumicha Wafula.

Apart from being from the Rift Valley and the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, almost half of the names proposed were either implicated in graft or have pending court cases.

As such, a section of MPs allied to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party has vowed to reject some of the cabinet nominees proposed by President William Ruto.

Led by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, the legislators said President William Ruto proposed nominees do not have regional balance.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 28, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi said half of the cabinet proposed by the Head of State consists of people from President William Ruto’s backyard and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

“This government is reserved for big ethnic communities. Half of the Cabinet has gone to Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions,” Wandayi said.

Wandayi, who is Azimio’s majority leader designate in the National Assembly further said the proposed Cabinet is essentially a line-up of who is who in the dark worlds of theft of public resources.

“In an economy that is crying for revival, it is shocking that the UDA administration has packed the proposed cabinet with some men and women who should be in jail for engaging in economic crimes and sabotage of the country

“We are seeing a lineup of people known for ethnic profiling. We are seeing warlords, hate-mongers, men, and women battling mega corruption cases and those who are known for opposition to positive change, among others,” the legislator said.
