Battle for Nairobi votes: Raila emerges most popular candidates

Orange Democratic (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has emerged as the most popular presidential candidate in the battle for Nairobi votes ahead of the August 9 elections.

According to polls released by Mizani Africa on Friday, January 21, 2022, Raila Odinga would win the presidential elections if it was held today.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has a popularity of 42.1%, followed closely by UDA candidate, Deputy President William Ruto at 31.1%.

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi emerged third with 3.4 % while his OKA counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka had a 2.5% approval rating.

According to the findings, 3.4% of the respondents would vote for other candidates while 18.3% were yet to decide their preferred candidate.  

According to the polls, Mizani Afrika asked a section of Nairobi who they will vote for as Kenyan fifth president if the election was held on Friday, January 21.

Raila’s performance is much better than as of January 15, where polls by Radio Africa Group showed that Deputy President William Ruto had a popularity of 44.8% in Nairobi against 35.7 % of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In the gubernatorial race, Mizani polls have placed Richard Ngatia as the most preferred candidate with 29.2%, Margaret Wanjiru and Timothy Wetangual emerged second and third with 24.1% and 19.1% respectively.

According to the findings, Johnstone Sakaja, Mike Sonko, and Agnes Kagure emerged distant fourth, fifth, and sixth with an approval rating of 10.7%, 5.8%, and 4.2 % respectively.

In the Nairobi senatorial race, the leading candidates are ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna, nominated MP Maina Kamanda, and Fredrick Otieno with a support base of 39.1%, 30.1%, and 15.1% respectively.
