The 67-year-old died at Kisumu Specialists Hospital on Sunday, November 5.

Her son George Ayugi, who is contesting for the Kisumu UDA chairmanship in the upcoming grassroots elections died after being admitted three weeks ago.

“She had been in and out of hospital for the past three months and was admitted to Kisumu Specialists Hospital last week where she passed on. She was to undergo a born marrow transplant,” Oyugi’s son said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

During the hotly contested 2022 General Election, the late unsuccessfully gave ODM leader Raila Odinga’s younger sister Ruth Odinga a run for her money.

The mother of seven who received a direct ticket emerged fifth after polling 7, 825 votes.

Ruth Odinga who clinched the ODM ticket in the primaries emerged as the winner after polling 304, 419 votes.

At the height of the campaign, the granny pointed out that her candidature was a true reflection of a hustler.

“I have been closely monitoring the governance system in Kisumu County and I am convinced that this is not the way to go, hence my bold move to contest for this position to address the leadership deficit not only in Kisumu but in the country whole,” she said.

The Kisumu businesswoman appealed to the people of Kisumu to reject calls for six-piece voting.
