Ruth Odinga: No one can be president apart from Raila

by Enock Ndayala

Veteran politician Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Odinga and his younger sister Ruth Odinga have clashed over what appears to be 2027 succession politics.

While Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga hinted that National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi was best to fit into Raila’s shoes, Ruth on the other side said no one from the region was comparable to the Azimio la Umoja Coalition leader.

Ruth who spoke at Mirogi Boys High School said the current crop of leaders in the region do not possess the same qualities as the former Prime Minister.

“I have looked around to check whether anyone meets his qualities but I have found none,” Kisumu Woman Rep said.

In what appears that her elder brother will give a sixth stab at the presidency, Ruth defended her brother against calls by some critics that he should retire from active politics.

She said Raila was still the region’s kingpin adding that the 78-year-old was the only leader from the region capable of defeating President William Ruto in the 2027 presidential election.

“No one from the lake region can take over from him and vie for the president and win… No one can be president from this region apart from Raila,” she said.

Her comments were seen to be derived from the recent incident in which the ODM leader was given an opportunity to use a door used by other Heads of State during the just concluded Climate Summit in Nairobi.

“Raila is the person who despite not being president was given an opportunity to use a door used by high-profile dignitaries and sit next to heads of state. It means that he (Raila Odinga) is still powerful,” she added.

The lawmaker further asked politicians from the Nyanza region to seek help from the ODM leader saying that he is the only person who can liberate the region.
